1. What is your name?
Sheila
2. How long have you been a member of Tapestry Choir, and what inspired you to join?
I’ve been a member for about 5 months now. My first rehearsal was on April 17, 2024. My love for music and the discipline that comes with choral singing inspired me to join. I was also excited by the idea of being part of a new project during the choir’s infancy stage, growing alongside it and seeing it flourish.
3. Can you share a memorable moment or performance with the choir that stands out to you?
Our first church service performance on May 5, 2024, at St. Peter’s is unforgettable. It was a “wild adventure,” as I had only been with the choir for about 3 weeks and already had the chance to perform. It made me feel like part of the family and affirmed that greater things were ahead.
4. What voice group do you sing in the choir, and what do you enjoy most about it?
I sing in the Alto Voice Group. We’re a passionate, committed group of singers, always giving our best during rehearsals and performances. Interestingly, I’ve always sung Soprano and never imagined I would be singing Alto—let alone enjoying it!
5. How has being part of Tapestry Choir impacted your personal or professional life?
The choir has been a lifeline for me—a “therapeutic space.” It’s had a huge positive impact on my well-being.
6. What is your favourite song to perform with the choir, and why?
The "Choral Amen" is my favourite. It’s a short, but incredibly artistic and magical piece.
7. Can you describe a typical rehearsal session with Tapestry Choir?
Rehearsals are fun, educational, and therapeutic. Wednesday evenings have never been the same since I joined.
8. What do you think makes Tapestry Choir unique compared to other choirs?
We are a diverse group, with each member being a distinct piece of a beautiful, colourful puzzle. Our name, Tapestry, says it all.
9. How do you prepare for a performance, both individually and as a group?
Individually, I do full-body workouts to manage my performance anxiety and practice silent or head singing to reinforce tunes and lyrics. As a group, we rehearse our repertoire repeatedly until it’s close to perfect.
10. What advice would you give to someone considering joining a choir like Tapestry?
Embrace diversity, be highly committed, avoid complacency, and strive for excellence.
11. Can you share 4 fun facts or something interesting about yourself that your fellow choir members might not know?
Here are 4 fun facts about me:
I’m addicted to apple cider vinegar and can’t live without my ginger, honey, and ACV concoction.
I’m a socially awkward introvert.
I’m reasonably shy and suffer from performance anxiety.
I love piercings—I have 8 and counting!
